A South Carolina restaurateur has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor after encouraging students to partake in an upcoming walkout protesting federal immigration enforcement efforts.

Dinah Marie Chollet, who co-owns The Knot Burger Pub in Summerville, was arrested early Wednesday in connection with a private group chat with Summerville High School students regarding a walkout against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials scheduled for Friday. She previously acknowledged briefly joining the conversation in a Facebook post last week.

Chollet, 44, claims she wasn’t the only adult in the chat about the anti-ICE walkout, insisting another person had been present but did not participate.

A student alerted a school resource officer at Summerville High School on February 9 about a planned protest set for February 20, according to a police report obtained by Newsweek.

“Melt ICE and join us!” a post promoting the walkout on Chollet’s Facebook page reads.

The officer monitored the group chat through early February 10 and identified an organizer who wanted to get as many students involved as possible for the “anti-ICE” protest, police said.

Chollet entered the chat late on February 10, introducing herself from her restaurant’s Instagram account and writing, “we are proud of [y’all],” police said.

Chollet then indicated that a “group of us” would be participating in the upcoming walkout with the students, according to the police report.

Chollet’s perspective as a “prominent business owner bears influence” over the students to engage in disruptive and violent behavior, police said.
