A Florida teenager was walking along a beautiful beach with his parents when a man suddenly attacked him and slashed his throat, nearly killing him.

Sullivan Clarke, 13, was strolling on the Daytona Beach Boardwalk around 10.05pm Saturday with his father Jerod and mother Lori when the unknown man rushed him.

The teen was looking at his phone when the attacker cut his neck, leaving a gash so deep that his father said he could peer inside the wound.

Doctors later told the family Sullivan would have died had the blade gone just one millimeter deeper.

Police later identified the random assailant as Jermaine Lynn Long, 44, and arrested him that same night.

Long is being held at the Volusia County Jail on two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. His bond is set at $50,000, according to jail records.

Sullivan’s father, Jerod, said the wound was so deep that he could ‘see the meat in his neck.’

Sullivan was rushed to Halifax Health Medical Center for treatment after the attack, according to police.

The teen apparently did not realize that Long had cut him until people in a nearby car told him about the wound.

The family had spent the day at the Daytona International Speedway before the attack.

Despite his injuries, Sullivan still returned to watch the race the next day.

‘His neck was hurting, but he really wanted to go, so we tried to keep things as normal as possible, and I said let’s go,’ Jerod told WKMG.

The parents claimed that Long had attacked their son unprovoked, which was corroborated by witnesses.

Long has an extensive criminal history, according to county records. He is also a registered sex offender.

The charges brought against him following his attack on Sullivan were his fifth felony case in Volusia County.

His prior charges included failure to properly register as a sex offender and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
