“Before we even get appearances, Mr. Thompson, I’m gonna need you to be respectful,” Judge Tracy Davis said, less than 30 seconds into Christopher Thompson’s final sentencing.

“I ain’t doing nothing with my d—,” he responded.

“Well, it’s fine, okay,” she said.

“What?” he asked.

“It’s fine,” Judge Davis responded.

That is how the hearing for 24-year-old Thompson began on February 2. He was convicted in December of robbery, kidnapping, sodomy and sexual abuse for the 2023 attack on a woman he did not know.

Court documents reveal the chilling details. Thompson wore a ski mask and abducted a woman in her own car, driving her to a school parking lot, where he forced her to perform sexual acts on him at gunpoint.

He then drove to an ATM, robbed her, and drove back to the school to sexually assault her again.

“This was, like I said during the trial, every woman’s worst nightmare,” Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Milja Zgonjanin said.

Zgonjanin asked the judge to uphold the jury’s recommendation that Thompson serve 65 years for the crimes, reading into the record the Kentucky statutes that dictate when a judge should consider a reduction in jury recommendation. {snip}

“Off the record, the defendant was speaking to Ms. Zgonjanin and stated, ‘I will see you in 20 years, b****,’” Judge Davis read aloud. “On the record, in front of the entire court, he stated, ‘D**** s*****, f**** y’all kids, and f**** y’all’s dead loved ones.’ In addition to that, speaking directly to the court, he said, ‘Eat my d****, b****. I’m going to pop your *** and s*** my d***, b****.’”

Judge Davis went on to emphasize how long she felt 65 years to be. She stated that she felt Thompson has not matured mentally yet and has not had a real shot at getting help.

She read aloud his record, which included juvenile crimes, like theft, robbery and truancy, some of which had been dismissed, and some he had to pay restitution on. He has also been convicted of felony gun possession charges, fleeing and evading police and probation violation, which Judge Davis initially put him on diversion for and later revoked. Most recently, Thompson was charged with assaulting a corrections officer while in custody in December 2025, which is still pending in court.

Judge Davis went on to explain her thoughts for the record, while Thompson repeatedly stated he “did not care.”

Judge Davis felt that 65 years was an “extremely long time.” As she put it, that is his whole life, one she does not believe should be spent entirely behind bars.

“Unfortunately, he fell through the cracks and ended up before this court as an 18 or 19-year-old,” Judge Davis said. “This court does not believe that Mr. Thompson, if given the resources that he can get while incarcerated, is beyond being rehabilitated.”

Thompson was sentenced to 30 years in prison… less than half of what a jury of his peers believed he should have received.
