Vernon Davis, a Super Bowl champion and former star tight end for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL), is reportedly facing charges of assault and battery after allegedly assaulting a woman during an argument over abortion.
According to a criminal complaint filed on January 8 and obtained by TMZ Sports, the former NFL star has been accused by an unidentified woman who was in a relationship with him of assaulting her during an argument regarding her pregnancy. The woman claimed that the argument took place at the 41-year-old former tight end’s residence on May 31, 2025.
TMZ reported that the unidentified woman claimed Davis began “hitting me w/ magazines + books from under his TV” and offered her $10,000 to have an abortion. According to the complaint, Davis allegedly stopped assaulting the woman after she took out her phone to record the former NFL star.

The woman claimed that another argument took place on June 7, 2025, after she accused the former NFL star of lying to her. She claimed that he slapped her in the face and told her “not to question him” when she was sitting next to him on a couch. The woman also claimed that she recorded Davis telling her that same night, “If I really slapped you, your face would be blue/black.”
The criminal complaint also documented another physical alteration that occurred days before the argument over the woman’s pregnancy. The unidentified woman claimed that the altercation with Davis resulted in her sustaining visible bruises and that an assault and strangulation case remained open regarding the incident.
TMZ reported that an arrest warrant on charges of battery and assault was issued on January 8 for Davis. The outlet noted that the former NFL star is currently expected to appear in court in February. Additionally, sources told TMZ that Davis is taking the assault allegations seriously.
According to The New York Post, Davis retired from his NFL career in 2020 after playing for the San Francisco 49ers, the Washington Commanders, and the Denver Broncos.
