Tom Brady narrowly avoided an awkward moment during his commentary of Sunday’s matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.
With under two minutes left in the fourth quarter of the NFC East showdown, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was taken down behind the line of scrimmage by Cowboys defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa for a 13-yard sack. While providing analysis of a replay showing the crucial play, Brady experienced a verbal stumble that almost became a controversial remark.
“Odighizuwa just blasted through Nicker,” Brady said before quickly fixing his error. “Excuse me, [Eagles guard] Landon Dickerson right there.” This came on the same night that Baker Mayfield’s nightmare start turned worse after eagle-eyed viewers noticed something about him during the TV coverage.
The slip-up immediately sparked reaction across social media, with numerous viewers questioning whether they’d heard Brady accurately. “Anyone rewind like 5 times,” one X user wrote, with another adding: “Bruh I knew I wasn’t tripping for a second.”
A third asked, “WHAT DID TOM BRADY JUST SAY?????”
Others came to Brady’s defense, maintaining that the seven-time Super Bowl champion didn’t use an inflammatory racial slur despite coming close. “He said ‘Nicker-‘ as in Nickerson,” a person said.
Someone else noted, “He said nicker when going to say Landon Dickersons name he just got tongue tied yall blow everything outta proportion.”
