David Williams, a retired U.S. Marine who has since worked for the State Department and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), officially launched a campaign against Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) on Tuesday. Williams warned that Americans are “in a fight for our country’s future” and suggested that the “far left” is “eating away” at what makes the country great.

In a campaign advertisement, Williams explained that he has served the United States for 30 years as a service member in the U.S. Marine Corps and a government employee at both the State Department and the CIA. The retired Marine announced that he plans to continue serving his country by becoming the next senator to represent Virginia.

“Serving overseas makes you really appreciate how incredible America is, and it made me want to fight for her that much more,” Williams said. “And make no mistake, we are in a fight for our country’s future.”

“From out-of-control crime, to imposing a radical trans agenda on our kids, to taking away our freedoms, the far left is eating away at the very fabric of what makes America great,” Williams added.

In the campaign advertisement, the retired Marine shared video footage of New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani shouting at law enforcement officials and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) shouting in Congress as examples of the “far left” standing in stark contrast with the conservative values Williams pledged to defend.

“I’m running for Senate to fight for our country, our commonwealth, and our families, standing alongside President Trump to put America and Virginia first,” Williams said. “I’ve served and fought for our country. Now, I’d love to fight for you.”

According to Fox News, incumbent Sen. Mark Warner was first elected as a senator in Virginia in 2009, replacing former Sen. John Warner (R-Va.). The outlet noted that Republican State Sen. Bryce Reeves also recently announced that he is running to unseat Mark Warner.

In a Tuesday press release, Williams’ campaign claimed that the former Marine enters the Virginia Senate race as the “only candidate with deep national security expertise, on-the-ground experience confronting America’s adversaries, and a proven record of service that spans multiple fronts.”

“I’ve spent my entire adult life defending America from foreign enemies — now I’m running to defend her from the destructive far-left policies that threaten our future,” Williams said in the press release. “Virginia deserves a Senator who will stand with President Trump, protect our values, and put working families first.”
