Attorney General Pam Bondi revealed that the Biden administration’s Department of Justice seized President Donald Trump’s government phone from his first term and subpoenaed his personal call logs.

“This is just further evidence of the egregious overreach and weaponization of government that took place under the previous White House against then-former president, now-President Donald Trump,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said. “It was a clear effort by the Biden White House and the Biden DOJ to go after the president, and this is just further evidence of that.”

Bondi said the FBI uncovered that during former special counsel Jack Smith’s “Arctic Frost” investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill protests, Smith seized Trump’s government-issued phone.

“This means the Biden administration turned over President Trump’s phone to special counsel—an UNPRECEDENTED action,” Bondi wrote on X. “In addition, special counsel subpoenaed all of President Trump’s PERSONAL phone records.”

“We can never again allow this kind of government weaponization in America,” she added. “I submitted these new documents to our partners on Capitol Hill. I commend our team at the FBI for working diligently to expose this.”

Earlier this month, the Senate Judiciary Committee released a set of documents that show the Smith team collected cellphone data from nearly a dozen Republican senators in the same investigation.

Republican senators released 197 subpoenas that Smith’s investigative team issued in 2023 as part of its case against Trump that also seemed to encompass numerous people and organizations in Trump’s orbit.

The subpoenas were provided to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, by a whistleblower and were directed at 34 individuals and 163 businesses.

The subpoenas show that the Smith team sought communications with media companies; communications with “any member, employee, or agent of the Legislative Branch of the U.S. Government”; communications with White House advisers such as Stephen Miller, Jared Kushner, and others; data on Republican donors and fundraising efforts; and broad financial data relating to conservative individuals and entities, including credit reports.
