Antifa has claimed responsibility on the far-left platform IndyMedia for an arson attack that destroyed the car of AfD member of parliament Bernd Baumann in Hamburg, along with his wife’s vehicle and two others.
The politician’s car was deliberately set on fire and burned to a husk outside his home on Monday night, Nov. 3, 2025. The fire subsequently spread to three other parked cars nearby.
Baumann, no stranger to arson attacks from Antifa, took to social media to describe the attack against him.
“Dear friends, another Antifa attack on me, 4 cars burned in front of the house. The police woke me up at around 5 a.m., another cowardly terrorist attack, my and my wife’s car completely burned out. This time, Antifa attacked in such a way that the meters-high flames spread to three other cars. They belonged to my neighbors, all total losses, all completely burned out. So many families damaged without a second thought,†he said.
“The whole neighborhood is shocked. This morning I also saw the stunned, frightened children on their way to school with their parents. The school is only 200 meters away. And they all had to pass this long row of smoking rubble with the acrid smell of burning. ‘Mummy, Mummy, what’s going on here,’ they asked,†Baumann continued.
He then goes on to describe how Antifa is not only powerful on the streets of Hamburg but also amongst the political elite in both his city and the federal Bundestag, including with funding and active support from government institutions.
“Yes, what’s going on in Germany? It’s not just in my hometown, my street, my house that I have to put up with the power of the Antifa. Their arms, their power, their fervor and their zeal reach all the way to Berlin, right here in the Bundestag, right into the plenum. Here, the left-wing MP Ferat Kocak shouts the historic battle cry of the violent Antifa in the middle of the plenum with impunity,†said Baumann.
The statement, whose authenticity has not yet been confirmed by the police, claimed that Baumann’s BMW was destroyed with an incendiary device. It opened with a defiant message: “Fiery greetings to the accused, imprisoned, and fugitive Antifa members!â€
Antifa publishes letter on Indymedia
The alleged reason for the attack is the upcoming trials “against Antifa in Dresden and Düsseldorf,â€Â involving 13 individuals: “Thirteen comrades are accused of multiple attacks on Nazis and their structures in Germany and Hungary,â€Â the statement read.
The group criticized the legal system’s increasing crackdown on militant leftists: “The harsh sentences in the first so-called Antifa East trial and against Hanna in September signal a strong will to repress and convict. Until now, the judiciary has often struggled to hand down sentences for membership in a criminal or terrorist organization against militant leftists who were not involved in guerrilla warfare. Now those in power are trying to set new standards.â€
The statement emphasized the urgent need for militant action, referencing anti-immigrant and racist practices:
“In times when the everyday, murderous, racist practices of Nazis, ordinary citizens, and cops are constantly increasing, when the military sealing off of Europe, Germany, and the USA against refugees is intensified, and the US president babbles about loving the smell of deportations in the morning and uses the military against anti-racist protest and resistance, in these times it is urgently necessary to organize militantly against fascism. In other words, to do exactly what the accused antifascists are now being charged with.â€
The group concluded with a specific call to action and a threat directed at certain political groups: “Form one, two, three, four hammer gangs! Antifascist alert, whether with hammers or Molotov cocktails!â€Â and “We don’t want to see any sexists, racists, or fascists in the city! All you damn MAGA freaks, you will follow Kirk to hell!â€
The message ended by expressing solidarity with the accused: “Clara, Emmi, Luca, Nele, Moritz, Paula, Henry, Johann, Julian, Melissa, Nanuk, Paul, and Tobias: much strength to you, the fight continues! Freedom for Maja, no extradition of Zaid to Hungary!â€
So far, there has been no arrest of any suspects in the attack on Baumann, but he has been the victim of several arson attacks in the past, including having his neighbor’s vehicle lit on fire this year.
The authenticity of the statement published on IndyMedia also remains open, as anyone can publish on the platform. However, many statements in the past have been verified, and the platform is seen as the preeminent platform for leftist groups to publish their claims of responsibility and other manifestos.
Antifa is especially active in cities like Hamburg, where it spreads terror and fear among anyone involved in right-wing politics. Just earlier this month, Remix News reported on three AfD politicians being doxxed in an extremely dangerous manner.
The far-left extremist portal “Indymedia,â€Â associated with Antifa, was used to target three politicians of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in Hamburg, including the publishing of their home addresses and calls to take action against the “fascists.†The information was published both on the platform but also on stickers, which were put up all over the neighborhoods where the three politicians live.
As a result, a state investigation has been launched.
Two AfD city council members were targeted, as well as a district council member, with the stickers distributed in the neighborhoods of all three individuals. The stickers featured the address and photos of all three politicians, along with a message that read: “Attention, AfD fascists in your neighborhood.â€
The city has also seen AfD politicians being directly assaulted, including in an incident from 2023.
