NORTH CODORUS TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) - Two people are in "serious condition" after a police incident in southern Pennsylvania, prompting the governor to rush to the scene.

Ted Czech with the York County Office of Emergency Management said a 911 call came in at 2:10 p.m. ET for an incident in the areas of Haar Road and Senft Road in North Codorus Township, near the Pennsylvania-Maryland state line. In a brief statement, Czech said the incident is "evolving" with police and EMS responding.

Two people were receiving treatment at WellSpan York Hospital, which said enhanced security protocols are in place.

The Spring Grove Area School District issued a shelter-in-place order, though it said schools and students were not involved in the shooting. The district said in a statement that authorities “advised us to hold students and staff in our buildings as a precaution while several area roads are closed.”

Governor Josh Shapiro and Attorney General Dave Sunday are both responding to the area as well.

"I’ve been briefed on the situation involving law enforcement in York County, and am on my way there now," Shapiro said. "We ask those in the area to please follow the directions of local law enforcement and PA State Police."

Lt. Governor Austin Davis, as well as Congressmen Lloyd Smucker and Scott Perry, called for prayers for those involved.

The Consulate of Mexico in Philadelphia said in a social media post that they were “monitoring the incident” in Pennsylvania and advised Mexican residents nearby to follow official instructions. The consulate did not provide any further information on why they were closely following the situation.

The incident is unfolding on a rural road that winds through an agricultural area with a red barn and farm fields. The region of south-central Pennsylvania is an apple-growing area that attracts migrant farm workers, many of them from Mexico.
