The Pakistan Armed Forces confirmed on Monday that security forces conducted overnight raids against two Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan hideouts in the northwest region of the country, resulting in the death of 31 Pakistani Taliban insurgent fighters.

The Associated Press reported that the Pakistani military confirmed that the overnight raids against the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan fighters, known as “Khwarij,” occurred in the districts of Laki Marwat and Bannu in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan. The outlet noted that the overnight raids come just days after the Pakistani military confirmed that it killed 45 members of the Tehrik-e-Taliban in the northwest region of the country.

In addition to the 45 members of the Tehrik-e-Taliban members killed in the military operations, 19 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the operations, according to The Associated Press.

The Associated Press reported that the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan has offered to hold direct talks with the Pakistani government to discuss the “root causes” of the conflict in the country, which has remained ongoing for the past two decades.

According to The Associated Press, Pakistan has experienced an increase in attacks over the past few years, with many attacks being attributed to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. The Associated Press reported that while the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan is separate from the Taliban in Afghanistan, which seized control of Afghanistan in 2021 under former President Joe Biden’s administration, the two groups are allied.

In a statement obtained by The Associated Press, the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan offered to have a meeting arranged between the insurgent group and government representatives if certain guarantees were provided. The outlet noted that the last time direct negotiations occurred between Pakistan and the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan was in 2022.

While the previous meeting between Pakistan’s government and the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan in 2022 resulted in a ceasefire agreement, the ceasefire ultimately collapsed, according to The Associated Press.
