Two suspects were arrested after allegedly planting an incendiary device under a Fox 13 News vehicle on Friday and attempting to ignite it in Magna, Utah.

According to Fox 13 News, 58-year-old Adeeb Nasir and 31-year-old Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir were arrested over the weekend in Magna after officials discovered an incendiary device under a Fox 13 News vehicle on Friday. The New York Post reported that the incendiary device was discovered less than an hour from Utah Valley University just days after Turning Point USA Founder Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

Fox 13 News reported that the incendiary device discovered under the outlet’s vehicle was determined by law enforcement officials to be a real explosive device that had been lit but “failed to function.” Due to the nature of the explosive device and the location of the device, officials determined that it presented a significant threat to the public’s safety, resulting in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) presiding over the case.

According to Fox 13 News, FBI officials executed a warrant on a home in the 2700 South block of 8500 West in Magna in coordination with the Salt Lake City Police Department and Unified Fire bomb squads on Saturday. During the execution of the search warrant, the two suspects admitted that “two hoax weapons of mass destruction” discovered by law enforcement officials were “real.”

Fox 13 News reported that the home law enforcement officials searched and multiple other homes in the Magna neighborhood were evacuated due to the discovery of the incendiary devices.

During the search related to the discovery of the incendiary devices, law enforcement officials also “observed additional contraband and evidence of crimes outside the scope of the original warrant, to include firearms and firearm related items, explosives and explosive-related components, illegal narcotics and associated paraphernalia, as well as electronic devices reasonably believed to contain evidence” of the initial incendiary device discovered under the Fox 13 News vehicle, according to an arrest report obtained by Fox 13 News.

Fox 13 News reported that the Salt Lake City Police Department confirmed that both suspects were not allowed to possess firearms due to protective orders against them. The two suspects currently face charges of possessing explosive devices, possessing weapons of mass destruction, and threat of terrorism, according to Fox 13 News.

In a statement following Friday’s incident, Fox 13 Station Manager Leona Wood confirmed that the news outlet is “working closely with law-enforcement and our risk management team, with the safety of our employees as our top priority.”
