GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — This week on "To The Point," time is running out to get a new state budget.

We’ll talk with two appropriators. First, Republican Representative Greg VanWoerkom.

Rep. Greg VanWoerkom (R) Norton Shores, said that a reasonable budget was proposed by the House.

“When you look at what the House proposed, one we increase the student pupil funding higher than it’s ever been by over 20 percent more than was before," he said.

“On the healthcare side, our budget actually includes all the actual enrollees. The Senate, Democrat budget did not include all the enrollees and then we make it up with general fund dollars. So we put a reasonable budget in there to make sure that people that need the healthcare, need the assistance, receive it.”

Rep. Matt Longjohn (D) Portage, expressed his concerns about Medicaid cuts.

“But my chief concern is the health and quality of life of every Michigander and a 3.7 billion dollar cut to the state Medicaid line item concerns me greatly,” he said.

“The one Big Beautiful Bill up in D.C. put us in a situation where we are expecting as many as 700,000 people in Michigan to lose their insurance over the next couple of years. You add to what that disastrous piece of legislation from the federal level is doing to Michiganders, all the uncertainty and anxiety that you would find in the Republican House budget, I wake up very concerned.”

The clock is ticking for a new budget. Will the legislature be able to find an agreement? We’ll talk about that this week To The Point.
