DOWAGIAC, Mich. (WOOD) — A 19-year-old was shot and killed in Dowagiac Saturday night.

Around 9:20 p.m., officers with the Dowagiac Police Department were sent to the area of Cherry Street and Halstead Street after reports of shots fired in the area.

While officers were investigating, they were told that a victim had arrived at a hospital with apparent gunshot wounds.

Officers learned that there had been an argument between two people. One person drew a gun and fired several shots, hitting the victim before taking off. The victim ran from the area and was picked up by friends who took him to the hospital, the police department said.

The victim, a 19-year-old Benton Harbor man, died, the police department said. His name has not been released.

Police are looking for a person of interest: 24-year-old Demorrio Maurice Lowes of Cassopolis.
