BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A Big Boy restaurant in Battle Creek caught fire on Thursday morning, according to firefighters. 

The Battle Creek Fire Department says they were sent to the restaurant, located on West Columbia Avenue, around 10:20 a.m. 

When firefighters arrived, they said the restaurant had heavy smoke and active flames. Staff members were evacuating people inside at the time, BCFD says. 

Crews were able to extinguish the fire and stop it from spreading, before removing remaining smoke. 

The fire department says that the fire originated from a rear storage area. No injuries were reported.

The business will remain closed temporarily until repairs are completed.
