KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A new bookstore is coming to Kalamazoo.
Books-A-Million is opening a location at 4404 Stadium Dr. near Drake Road in Kalamazoo, according to its website, which says the location is "coming soon!"
It will be the third BAM location in Michigan, with stores also located in Beverly Hills and Traverse City, according to its website.
The Alabama-based bookstore chain has more than 260 stores across the country, and bills itself as the "second largest book retailer in the nation." The company says it got its start back in 1917 as a street corner newsstand in Florence, Alabama.
News 8 reached out to BAM Monday and was directed to a media contact, who did not immediately reply.
It will join a growing list of new bookstores in the West Michigan area as the book industry sees a resurgence. Pages & Peonies opened earlier this month in Walker, offering romance books. This spring, Expresso Books and Beans opened in the Holland area, Barnes & Noble opened its second Grand Rapids location and Novel Pastries — a book-themed bakery that offers a library and will eventually sell books — opened near Marne.
Late last year, romance-only bookstore Pages and Grapes opened in Wyoming, while Cellar Bird Books opened on Bridge Street in Grand Rapids. Other shops that have opened over the last two years include Orchard House, Black Dog Books and Records and Rolling Rabbit Books.
